Jonathan : Website Traffic Demolition, Free advertising Hi again! If you tried to download CoolKill
and were unable to, it was because I incorrectly named the download
file. You can download it now though. I've been working on a new ebook for the last week or so. It's based on the articles that I had in this ezine in the last two issues. (How To Keep People Away From Your Website, see issues 4 and 5 in the archives.) I originally planned to call the ebook How To Keep People Away From Your Website, but that's a long name for an ebook. So I went with something a bit shorter. I'm calling it Website Traffic Demolition. I hope to have completed Website Traffic Demolition and released it by the next issue of AWSF. It's going to be in .pdf format so anybody with Adobe Acrobat Reader will be able to read it, regardless of their operating system. Oh yes, and don't worry. I'm planning on releasing it for free. The Solutions Forum (tSf) is still sitting there. I haven't had many people posting to it, besides my friend Joshua. I'd appreciate it if you'd take the time to register there. It's a great place if you have a question regarding website design, promotion and more. Anybody can participate. http://www.prowebsitemanagement.com/thesolutions/ If you want to have your website
critiqued, you can go to http://www.prowebsitemanagement.com/thesolutions/ I'm going to be changing the Free Advertising offer, so that instead of mentioning a person's website on my main page, I'll just put a small ad in Awesome Solutions For Webmasters. I'll have more information in the next issue. Enjoy this week's article. Jonathan P.S. I appreciate everybody who has
taken the time to send me positive and negative comments about this
ezine. ==========================================================- 2. Put Your Graphics On A Diet How many times have you gone to a website and had to wait for a blank page with a whole bunch of images to load? When that happens to me, I usually close the window, unless the website is something very important. Remember that not everybody has fast internet access. People with modems may not consider it worth their time to wait for 20-30 images to load. Try to hook up with somebody who has a slow computer and have them access your website. How long is it taking to load? Make sure all your images are optimized. You want to 'crunch' them down for size, yet you want them to keep their quality. I was at a site recently where I thought the server was really slow at loading images. Well, it was actually trying to load a 900kb bmp image! An image like that could be 'crunched' down to less than 100kb. Optimizing your images is one of the most important things to do if you want to have a website that will load fast. You don't want people to get tired of waiting and click away, do you? ==========================================================- 3. Cool Tool : Spinwave (Image Crunchers) Spinwave sells different optimization programs, such as JPEG CRUNCHER 2.0 and GIF CRUNCHER. But, they also have a FREE service, which can be used to optimize your GIF and JPEG files. http://www.prowebsitemanagement.com/cooltools/spinwave.html Here is how to use the Spinwave free crunching service. All you need to do is upload your image file(either a .gif or a .jpeg), then you'll go to the next page. You may have to wait a little bit for the next page to load, while the server processes, optimizes and crunches your graphics. Spinwave will offer you 5 choices. The first choice will be your original graphic. The remaining choices are the crunched original graphic at different sizes. All you do is choose which image looks best, preferrably the smallest, if possible. Then right-click on the image and save it to your hard drive. It's definitely a useful tool. Graphic optimization should be something that all webmasters do. Special thanks to Joshua Cobin for telling me about this Cool Tool. ..GOT A COOL TOOL? Send me the description and
