1. Jonathan : Congratulations..
..this is my very first issue
of Awesome Solutions For Webmasters, and you are receiving it!
I got a little delayed in getting
this out, because the mailing list that my webhost service provided
me with was INSECURE.
Insecure, in the sense, that
anybody(with a little knowledge) would have been able to SPAM
the group!
Fortunately, I figured this out
and switched scripts before there was the opportunity for a
problem.
I'm using Mojo Mail, which can
be found at http://mojo.skazat.com.
This is really an excellent script, and it's free and easy to
customize.
Anyways, I'm really proud that
I'm finally getting this out. I wanted to be sure that I actually
had some 'content' for this
e-zine before I started to send it out.
I'd appreciate any subscribers
who would kindly be able to mention my website, to friends or
family who might find this interesting.
I'm not asking you to spam, in
fact, I'm telling you.. do not spam. That's not what I'm looking
for.
What I'm looking for is some
basic word-to-mouth here. And if you would make a small effort,
I'd appreciate it.

2. Don't Feed the Email Address
Harvesters!
They are out there, watching
your website.
No, I'm not talking about those
bad guys from the Matrix.
I'm talking about the losers,
who spend their time using spiders to catch people's email addresses.
They send them out to the search
engines, websites, or newsgroups. Odds are that if you have
a website, you've already had your email address sucked up by
one of these spiders.
It's a pain in the butt, when
you have to waste your time downloading SPAM. And then comes
the fun job of wading through all the garbage to find the real
stuff.
I decided that I was going to
prevent this from happening as much as possible with PRO Website
Management. So, I changed all visible email addresses on my
website, replacing @ signs for [at] and periods for [dot].
If you go to any page on my website,
you'll find that all of the email addresses have the following
format:
.. webmaster[at]prowebsitemanagement[dot]com
..
I still do have mailto links
for people to click on, it's a convenience. But what did I do
that would prevent spiders from finding these mailto links?
I use a small javascript script
that 'encodes' the email address.
It replaces all the letters with character entities, a hexadecimal
code.
I'm told that there are email
harvesting programs out there that can decode the hexadecimal
code. And I'm sure that there are. Some loser would obviously
figure this out and know how to do it.
But I downloaded 6 different
email harvesting programs(no, I'm not telling where I downloaded
them from.) They were all pretty recent programs. I had them
scan my website, and they were unable to find my email addresses!
Since 'encoding' my mailto links,
and switching @ for [at] and
. for [dot], I've been receiving less spam!

3. Cool Tool : Email Address
Encoder
This small script can encode
your email address into hexadecimal code. This can prevent most
email address harvesters from getting your email address from
your website!
Definitely a useful tool. I recommend
that you give it a try.

Think of it as a necessary precaution!
The longer you wait, the worse the spam is going to get.

useful to webmasters can qualify.
